The FAIC was admitted since 2019 as official Observer at the Mediterranean Action Plan/UNEP. Within this role it is announcing the chance for the members Cities of participating to the following initiative.
On 2018, UN-Habitat launched the Waste Wise Cities Campaign (WWCC) calling for action targeting cities and local governments to improve on waste and resources management.
Some of the benefits of the city members from the campaign are: improved data for decision making through the WWC tool for waste data assess; free technical assistance from UN-Habitat technical experts; building capacity of technical staff through the Waste Academy; sharing best practices; project preparation facility with support in drafting project proposals and in developing waste management plans; facilitate access to funding partners and donors.
In the framework of the WWCC, the UN-Habitat invites also cities to join the Waste Wise Cities Challenge with the aim to pair cities who are committed to change with a supporter city, who will share knowledge and expertise.
For a city to become a supporter city, it must commit 10% of time of two full-time experts in waste management who can engage in the activities of challenge.
