The Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Cities (FAIC) renewed its leadership during the XXIV General Assembly held on October 25 in Ancona. Luigi Albore Mascia, representing the City of Pescara, was elected as the new President, succeeding Massimo Seri, Mayor of Fano. During the assembly, the newly elected President expressed profound gratitude to his predecessor and to Secretary General Anna Maria Bertini, Councillor of the Municipality of Ancona.
In his address, President Luigi Albore Mascia emphasized his commitment to strengthening the network of member cities within the Forum and broadening participation. He also highlighted the importance of resuming in-person meetings to solidify cooperation and reaffirmed FAIC’s crucial role in implementing the European Union Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region.
Strategic Guidelines for the Next Two Years
During the assembly, the key directives that will shape FAIC’s activities for the 2024-2026 term were outlined:
- Key thematic pillars: FAIC’s development will focus on three main areas: blue economy, culture, and sustainability.
- The “100 Cities” project: FAIC aims to expand its network by adding 54 new cities to its current membership, reaching a total of 100 cities. This expansion will enhance the association’s representation in the Adriatic-Ionian area and increase its institutional significance on the international stage.
- Collaborative network of EU Affairs offices: A network will be established among the EU Affairs offices of member cities to develop joint European projects, foster synergies between local authorities, and access greater funding opportunities from the European Union.
New Vice Presidents and Executive Board
Together with the President, two new Vice Presidents were elected: the Mayor of Civitanova Marche (Italy) and the Mayor of Kotor (Montenegro).
The Executive Board for the 2024-2026 term will include the following cities: for Albania, Shkoder; for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mostar; for Croatia, Dubrovnik, Ploče, Split, and Zadar; for Greece, Igoumenitsa; for Italy, Ancona, Fano, Macerata, and Vasto; for Montenegro, Budva and Bar.
With this new leadership team in place, FAIC is poised to further strengthen its role as a catalyst for collaboration and development in the Adriatic-Ionian region, aiming to promote innovative and sustainable initiatives for all involved communities.
